Meet the Speaker
Sarah Elia is a language teacher at Saugerties Central School District in upstate New York. She is on the faculty of the Teaching and Learning Department at the State University of New York at New Paltz in collaboration with Chongqing University of Education in China. She also teaches short-term classes and summer workshops at Bard College. She has presented at TESOL International Association conventions throughout the United States, as well as at state and local conferences.
She has written for The New York Times, Edutopia, Perspectives on History, a magazine of the American Historical Association, and other publications in hopes of inspiring educators to use their creativity to challenge and empower multilingual learners. Sarah is a past president of New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages.
